Would you like to learn how to manage your emotions more easily?
To train your mind to find peace in stressful situations?
Research in mindfulness meditation has shown that a practice will improve your ability to observe the situation, instead of reacting to whatever is going on around you.
Studies show that those of us who practice mindfulness have a smaller amygdala, which is the emotion center of the brain (commonly referred to as the "fight or flight" portion of the mind). This gives us more control over our emotions, without lessening our ability to feel them.
It has also been discovered that the pre-frontal cortex, which is responsible for our ability to make judgement and reason, becomes more developed. This enables us to correctly assess our surroundings without simply acting in response.
For example, say you are at home and you find your partner or child has left the house a complete mess. The common reaction would be to get angry, and start a yelling contest with that family member. They might clean the house afterwards, but you will both be bitter and resentful. On the other hand, if you practice mindfulness, it is more likely that you would approach the family member in a calm manner. The house still gets cleaned, and everyone is happy.
Mindfulness meditation is a tool you can use in all aspects of life, and it is easy to learn!
